When I pass the CAIP® examination, when will I receive my certificate?
After a candidate passes the examination, a certificate showing an expiration date of December 31 of the current year will be available in the CAIP online portal . Beginning January 1 of the following year, the certificant may access their three-year certification certificate through the CAIP online portal.
When is the certification fee due?
Certification fees are paid once every three years, rather than annually, beginning with each new three-year certification cycle.
Certificants who are already in the middle of a three-year cycle will continue paying annually until their next three-year certification period begins. After that, fees will be due once every three years.

Why should I recertify? The credential isn’t required.
While the CAIP credential is not currently required, it demonstrates a strong commitment to infection prevention in the ASC setting. If a certificant does not recertify before their credential expires, they will lose the right to use the CAIP credential, their name will be removed from CAIP records, and they will need to retake and pass the exam to become certified again.
Who is BASC? I thought this was the CAIP credential?
The Board of Ambulatory Surgery Certification (BASC) administers two certifications for ASC professionals: Certified Administrator Surgery Center (CASC®) and Certified Ambulatory Infection Preventionist (CAIP).
Who should I contact if I have any questions regarding my CAIP certification?
Submit questions to CAIP at 703.836.4871 or caip@aboutcaip.org.
How often do I need to submit my Infection Prevention Contact Hours (IPCHs)?
IPCHs may be submitted at any time; however, all 30 IPCHs must be submitted through the CAIP online portal by December 31 of the final year of the certification cycle. Failure to meet this requirement will result in revocation of the credential. No extension period will be granted.
How can I make sure I receive important updates about my CAIP certification?
Certificants should keep their contact information, especially their email address, up to date in the CAIP online recertification system. All official messages about the credential are sent by email.
